1) DVD DVD Something's Gotta Give by Sony Pictures. A smart and often very funny movie about love on the back nine of life. It´s different than the love of youth, and better, I think: The romance is just as sweet, but richer, with a lifetime of experience swirled around in it.

This is a thoughtful and--not a word I´d usually use, but perfect in this case--delightful movie. Jack is indeed his own type, as the movie makes note, which makes this a role seemingly written for him, playing a legendary Lothario forced to consider what he´s missed and missing in such a life. A gutsy role for Nicholson, if you think about it, but because he´s Jack, you don´t. (Well, until later, obviously.)

Diane Keaton´s always been a background actress for me, someone who´s always done good to great work, but whose films and roles have never resonated in memory for me. This one I´ll remember. For me it´s her best. Her candor onscreen is so real at times it´s startling; she seems less to be acting than being caught on film.

In the supporting roles, Amanda Peet continues to get better--check out Igby Goes Down for more evidence--and, because I´m a guy, prettier as well. The only false note, not surprisingly, is Keanu Reeves, whose casting is an absolute mystery to me. And as a doctor no less; Joey´s Drake Remoray on Friends seems more real. I just don´t get how with so many actually good (and more handsome, for that matter) actors available--Ted? The fact that he continues to be cast in roles that require him to emote just further convinces me he´s a modern Rasputin.

It´s a small price to pay, though. This one´s worth evening price. It´s as close to genuine as today´s Hollywood gets. You´ll feel better for it, and actually wish you could be older and in love.

2) DVD DVD Something's Gotta Give by Sony Pictures. This romantic comedy is great and almost a classical one. Performances are great but the script is even better. Even though the DVD is quite simple and do not include any additional interesting material that would have completed the product, the movie by itself deserves to be part of all collections.

3) DVD DVD Something's Gotta Give by Sony Pictures. Let me start by saying that the chemistry between Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson is magic. They will not go down in history as being one of the magical couples that graced the silver screen and that is a shame because they should. They are something that years of training, experience, or practice can not replicate. They just ARE....and they are a joy to watch.

The movie itself is a wonderful combination of bitter and sweet, happiness and sorrow. I just love it and will watch it at any chance I get.

4) DVD DVD Something's Gotta Give by Sony Pictures. This is a movie I never get tired of. Diane Keaton is the best. It was nice to see this side of Jack Nicholson too. And a hunk like Keanu Reeves really spiced the movie up. I love the ending. It´s a "feel good" movie, definitely a chick flick.

5) DVD DVD Something's Gotta Give by Sony Pictures. I´ve already seen this a few times. It is one of my top favorites! It is a romantic comedy. There are a couple of scenes that you should probably take with a grain of salt. I can´t believe some of the neg reviews... The casting is awesome! It is perfect for a gloomy day, it´ll cheer you right up! Simply sweet! Jack Nicholson is the cherry on top for me ;))) I highly recommend it!

6) DVD DVD Something's Gotta Give by Sony Pictures. Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) is a perennial playboy with a libido much younger than his years. During what was to have been a romantic weekend with his latest infatuation Marin (Amanda Peet) at her mother´s Hamptons beach house Harry develops chest pains. He winds up being nursed by Marin´s reluctant mother Erica Barry (Diane Keaton) a successful divorced New York playwright. In the process Harry develops more heart pangs -- the romantic kind -- for Erica an age-appropriate woman whom he finds beguiling. However some habits die hard. When Harry hesitates his charming thirtysomething doctor (Keanu Reeves) steps in and starts to pursue Erica. And Harry who has always had the world on a string finds his life unraveling.System Requirements:Running Time: 128 Min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY Rating: PG-13 UPC: 043396013025 Manufacturer No: 01302

7) DVD DVD Something's Gotta Give by Sony Pictures. As upscale sitcoms go, Something´s Gotta Give has more to offer than most romantic comedies. Obviously working through some semi-autobiographical issues regarding "women of a certain age," writer-director Nancy Meyers brings adequate credibility and above-average intelligence to what is essentially (but not exclusively) a fantasy premise, in which an aging lothario who´s always dated younger women (Jack Nicholson, more or less playing himself) falls for a successful middle-aged playwright (Diane Keaton) who´s convinced she´s past the age of romance, much less sexual re-awakening. As long as old pals Nicholson and Keaton are on screen discussing their dilemma or discovering their mutual desire, Something´s Gotta Give is terrific, proving (in case anyone had forgotten) that Hollywood can and should aim for an older demographic. Myers falls short with the sitcom device of a younger lover (Keanu Reeves) who wants Keaton as much as Nicholson does; it´s believable but shallow and too easily dismissed. Myers also skimps on supporting roles for Frances McDormand, Amanda Peet, and Jon Favreau, but thankfully this is one romantic comedy that doesn´t pander to youth. Mature viewers, rejoice! --Jeff Shannon
