2) Misc. Grocery Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Beans by Jelly Belly Candy Company. So, I finally did it. I finally worked up enough courage while at Sweet Factory yesterday to buy a 1.6 oz box of Bertie Bott´s beans. I didn´t do any of this "test nibbling" that most people seem to do; when confronted with a "weird" flavor I just popped the whole bean in my mouth and chewed. Some of them (especially the grass-flavored one) were not too bad. Here´s a rundown of the weird flavors (I´m not reviewing the normal flavors, because who doesn´t know what green apple tastes like?):

Bacon: This tastes less like actual bacon and more like a candy that´s trying to taste like bacon, which I guess is the point. If you´ve ever smelled a Beggin Strip dog snack, it smells kinda like that when you bite into it. Very smoky, strong flavor.

Black Pepper: The first "weird" flavor that I got, and unlike most people, I actually liked this, despite the fact that I never put pepper on anything. Very pungent and spicy.

Booger: This one is hard to describe, but it´s kind of salty.

Dirt: You can smell the dirtness (is that a word?) when you bite into it. Surprisingly not too bad. Very mild.

Earthworm: Perhaps people who have been contestants on Fear Factor might know what earthworms taste like, but as I am not one of those people, I don´t. However, this one tastes kind of like the dirt-flavored one, only there´s an underlying smell/taste that I can´t describe.

Earwax: Speaking as someone who has inadvertently tasted earwax in her youth, I can honestly say that thankfully, this does not actually taste anything like earwax. Real earwax is very bitter (once you happen to taste it, you never forget it!) and this bean is strong, but rather fruity-flavored. I want to say that it tastes like a really, really strong green tea, with some other spice that seems very familiar to me but that I can´t place.

Grass: Okay, seriously, I could eat a whole bag of these. IMHO, they´re the best of the "weird" flavors. It smells like a fresh-mown lawn when you bite it and it tastes sweet, mild and rather floral.

Rotten Egg: Unfortunately (or should that be fortunately?) I didn´t get any rotten egg flavor in my box, and if I did, they tasted like very strong, sour lemon.

EDIT: Okay, apparently what I thought was rotten egg WAS actually lemon. Beware, because the rotten egg flavor doesn´t look like the picture on the back of the box. On the box, it´s yellowy-green splotched; the beans that I got in a new box I bought on 2.01.06 were kind of opaque off-white with tiny green dots on them. I believe "horrible" might possibly begin to describe the taste of this bean. I had two in my box, and there was something familiar about them, and then it hit me--when you bite into it, it tastes like potato-leek soup gone bad. (Those who have never had potato-leek soup, I´m sorry, but that´s the only thing I can compare it to.)

Sardine: This is the worst flavor IMHO. I hate fish to begin with, and if you bite into it the smell just punches you in the nose. Apparently, according to the ingredients label, they use real fish (cod, though).

Soap: Very mild and rather bland. You can smell the soap scent, but other than that, there´s not really anything soapy-tasting about this kind. But then again, who´s ever eaten soap before, except for Ralphie from "A Christmas Story"?

Vomit: Luckily I only got one of these kind. Interestingly enough, it tasted kind of like pizza. Kind of.¤

3) Misc. Grocery Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Beans by Jelly Belly Candy Company. I bought boxes for my friends a few years back. We decided to pass them around and whatever flavor you took you had to eat, no exceptions. If you got a flavor you´d already had you had to pick again. My personal worst flavor was Black pepper. I bought another box recently then went around a different group of unsuspecting friends and offered them a jellybean. After they had eaten it I told them what they were. Fun times to be had with these little jelly beans. Especially as they add more flavors.¤

4) Misc. Grocery Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Beans by Jelly Belly Candy Company. This is Possibly the best candy ever! And it´s the perfect gag gift. These beans are actually every flavor!I love Harry Potter and these beans. If you buy them looking for fun then you´ll be happy. If you buy them for good taste then you´ll get quite the surprise! As for me these beans are my favorite candy ever. Cheers¤

5) Misc. Grocery Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Beans by Jelly Belly Candy Company. I´m giving this product 5 stars because it delivers on its promise: jelly beans that taste like what they say they will. That being said, I was surprised that the "body product" stuff like vomit, earwax and booger didn´t taste nearly as bad as the real food. I nearly threw up after eating one of the spaghetti ones - and the spinach and sardines were just as bad.

We gave out the small boxes as a gag gift for my son´s Harry Potter party, but I can´t imagine going back and eating them for the taste.¤

6) Misc. Grocery Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Beans by Jelly Belly Candy Company. It´s magical. It´s incredible, and it just arrived! The new Discovery Box of Bertie Bott´s Every Flavor Beans, the jelly bean preferred by Harry Potter, holds 20 mild and wild flavors, each in its own little pocket. Dip into the extra good flavors of watermelon, grape jelly and toasted marshmallow, and more. Or, discover the wild flavors of EARWAX, DIRT, SPINACH, GRASS, BOOGER, SARDINE, and BLACK PEPPER. And, everyone´s favorite VOMIT. Think of stinky limburger cheese, think salami gone bad--that´s VOMIT all wrapped up in the disguise of a jelly bean. Fortunately, the beans come with a mystical guide to help you recognize the flavors. 8.5 ounces.¤
